Hotels
We have reserved rooms for the conference at two hotels close to the University, Quinta da Bica d’Agua and Slaviero, and early reservation is recommended as both hotels are comparatively small. A single room plus breakfast costs about R$180, which at current exchange rates is around £50 or €60 or $80. Quinta is slightly more expensive for two and three person occupancy (see hotelquintadabicadagua.com.br) and is slightly farther from the university, 15 minutes walking distance as opposed to 10 from Slaviero (see slavierohoteis.com.br/br/florianopolis).
However, in compensation, Quinta da Bica d’Água is set in a wonderful wooded park with pleasant walkways. We have negotiated significant discounts for those who book via the conference’s official travel agents, Campus Turismo, but those overseas may find it more convenient and indeed no more expensive to book on-line with booking.com or opodo.co.uk. Campus Turismo (Gustavo +55 48 3233-6525; email campus@campusturismo.com.br) can also offer alternatives for those who prefer to stay elsewhere during or after the conference, for example in the town centre at an International hotel like Sofitel, or at one of the beaches, perhaps at Costão de Santinho (see costao.com.br), which has been voted the best beach resort in the whole of Brazil on seven occasions.
